We are sustainable
Our Choice
We have always been responsible for our social and environmental footprint. The clothing sector is the second most polluting sector globally and we at CoccoleBimbi have always been aware of this and seek all the solutions to minimize the impact of our business at an international level. We hace classified each product with specific tags to guide our customers towards an increasingly sustainable choice.
Organic
Cotton (organic and not organic) is a natural fiber because it is obtained by spinning cotton wool, real wads that cover the seeds of the cotton plant, a herbaceous plant belonging to the Malvaceae family. Cotton is the most widespread textile fiber in the world: it covers more than half of the world's fiber needs and is widely used in the production of clothing. Does the term ""natural"" mean organic and healthy? Sadly not: to keep up with demand and to intensify production, from the cultivation to the processing of traditional cotton, pesticides, insecticides and other chemical substances harmful to the environment and health are used.
With the tag Organic, CoccoleBimbi indicates all the articles that have been produced in organic cotton. By organic cotton we mean cotton from organic farming, i.e. cotton grown according to the specification that regulates organic certification; conventional cotton, on the other hand, is cotton that comes from chemical agriculture and is often GMO. CoccoleBimbi, therefore, always tends to choose suppliers who, during their supply chain, use only natural and organic fibers. Mini Rodini, Stella McCartney, Bobo Choses, The Animal Observatory and Molo are examples of how the world of kidswear is increasingly moving towards a sustainable solution also in terms of production.
Vegan
In the textile sector, violence against animals is comparable to that attributed to the food sector, but with a substantial difference: utility. Thinking about it, we are promoting cruelty and suffering just to wear furs, jackets padded with feathers or wool, or simple silk scarves.
Intensive farms are worse than slaughterhouses, a hell for animals forced to live their short lives in very narrow spaces, mistreated and, when "lucky", brutally killed. All this just to satisfy our demand for natural fabrics of animal origin: feathers, silk and fur are the absolute worst.
CoccoleBimbi particularly cares about this theme. In fact, the CEO Cesare Morisco, activist and super Vegan, has tried over time to significantly reduce all the items and all the brands that use materials of animal origin in their supply chain. At the moment, however, it is still premature to approach the world of kidswear with concepts and terms such as ''vegan'' and ''cruelty free''.
In particular, starting from February 2022, CoccoleBimbi has decided to reduce significantly the buying of all those items made in mohair wool and alpaca fleece.
With the tag Vegan, CoccoleBimbi indicates all the articles that have been produced with materials that do not come from animal origin and that have been made respecting the Cruelty Free criteria. The tag "Vegan" is assigned by CoccoleBimbi exclusively to those products that have one of these textile certifications: People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), VeganOK, Animal Free Fashion.
GOTS
In our store, we are also proud to have numerous GOTS certified items.
The Global Organic Textile Standard guarantees:
- Products that contain at least 70% natural fibers from organic farming.
- Manufacturing activities, such as dyeing or printing, carried out on behalf of third parties, which are supplied by operators who have in turn adopted management models and procedures that comply with the required requirements;
- Chemical products used in the processing of the textile industry that comply with the required requirements, through appropriate evaluation, mainly based on the verification of the toxicological and ecotoxicological characteristics.
Recycled
Sustainability and the circular economy are opposed to the old linear economy model: in the kidswear sector this is a strong matter, so much that many brands are adopting the logic of re-use, in line with the new needs of consumers who are increasingly attentive on safeguarding natural resources. The latest strong trend therefore seems to be upcycling. But what exactly is it and why is it a great chance? It is important to buy and use items made with recycled materials because, in this way, natural resources are not exploited and waste or unused fabrics are given new life.
With the tag Recycled CoccoleBimbi indicates those items that have been produced using recycled materials. Mini Melissa, VeJa, Infantium Victoria and Bobo Choses are just some of the brands that are part of our brand mix, and that use recycled materials throughout their supply chain. Molo, for example, uses certified nylon and polyester fabrics made with recycled yarns that reduce waste from landfills, repurposing them into sustainable styles in its collections. By transforming post-consumer waste into new resources, materials can therefore be reused, giving them a second life.
Shop Consciously
How many times do we buy without thinking too much? And how many times do the same orders become returned goods? Those who buy online are, increasingly, subject to return the goods.
Yes, the return policy is a comfortable and easy way to prevent our clothes from remaining in the wardrobe without ever being worn; but at the same time, it has an impact on the environment that shouldn't go unnoticed. Since a return is basically a package that travels twice, this increases the frequency of transport and the use of new material used for packaging, polluting twice as much. The returns policy is in fact responsible for about 5 billion pounds of waste that end up in US landfills alone, and 15 million tons of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
We at CoccoleBimbi, who have always placed sustainability at the center of our values, both in our actions and by trying to raise awareness of those of our customers, invite you to discover what is defined as conscious purchase, i.e. all those few and simple actions that allow us to avoid a return. First of all, think carefully about what you are buying: is it really fundamental?
Furthermore, by consulting the Size guide on Coccolebimbi.com to choose the size that best suits your needs, or by relying on the Costumer Service, always available for advice and clarifications, you can avoid frequent returns and make a satisfactory purchase, preserving the environment and the future of the planet and our children as a consequence.
